Signal Fluency™ Lab
By design, signals get your attention. Signal Fluency is what makes them clear.
Your heart is pounding.
Is that dread? Or is that the exact same signal your body sends right before something good?
Same sensation. Different story — and your brain wrote both of them.
Your body never stops talking.
A tightening. A pull. A hesitation. Energy. Fatigue. Ease.
Most of the time, you can't hear any of it.
Not because it isn't there. Because everything else is louder.
Try listening for a whisper at a concert.
That's roughly what it's like to notice a body signal while you're running at full speed.
Scientists have a name for the skill of reading what's happening inside you: interoception. Some people are naturally better at it than others.
The good news — it's trainable.
Training starts with one distinction.
A raw signal and the story you attach to it are not the same thing.
Your brain doesn't just detect the pounding heart. It writes a caption for it, fast, using whatever it already expects to be true.
Sometimes the caption is right.
Sometimes it's a total guess wearing a fact's clothing.
Maybe you've stopped trusting your own read entirely — too many false alarms, too many gut feelings that turned out to be nothing, or turned out to be everything and you missed it.
That's not a broken instinct. That's an untrained one.
The body speaks through what you feel, not what you think. By design, it processes a constant stream of information — from your environment, and from your own biology.
But most of us were trained to read that information through a lens shaped by our life experience — one that filters how we relate to our past, present, and future circumstances.
That lens distorts the signal, creating an ever-widening gap between what the signal is conveying and our ability to accurately interpret it.
That gap is what depletion, overwhelm, scattered thinking, fog, and reactivity feel like from the inside.
Signal Fluency™ is where you close it.
The goal isn't for every sensation to be perfectly clear — it's about tending to the curiosity around the sensation or feeling, and allowing something resourceful to surface.
Your body speaks in spectrums of sensation.
Tension. Relaxation. Contraction. Expansion. Holding. Flow.
Sometimes the signal moves like a wave. Sometimes it's a pulse, a rush, a spiral.
Sometimes it's none of those. Sometimes it's crunchy, stuck, distorted — and that's information too. No signal means the same thing for everyone.
What reads as awe to you might read as warning to someone else. Same sensation, different translation — because the translation is personal, and it has to be learned, not assumed.
This is inquiry, as a way to avoid being boxed in by default interpretation. Signal Fluency is about being curious instead of certain.
The raw data of sensation, feeling, and impulse running underneath everything you do is your Felt Sense.
Information. Not instruction.
As we build our rapport with our Felt Sense, we build self-trust. It develops the way everything does here — through reps. Through internal engagement. By checking your read, and getting it wrong sometimes, and noticing that too.
And clarity of signal is what discernment is actually built from — the skill of knowing whether an impulse to slow down, push through, or pause is old habit, quiet avoidance, or your body intelligence guiding you.
As your Signal Fluency grows, so does self-trust.
Steadiness and discernment follow — forward motion that comes from a settled system with a clear signal, not from force.
What you'll explore
- How to tell a body signal apart from the story you've attached to it.
- The skill of interoception — how it works, and how to train it.
- How to map your internal signals and read the influences shaping their meaning.
- How to simultaneously tend to competing signals — and how that builds Signal Fluency™.
- Why self-trust isn't about following every feeling — and what it's actually built from.
Signal Fluency™ inside Reset to Reinvent™
Regulation gives you room. Reframe gives your thinking somewhere to go. Future Self Rehearsal gives your body a place it's already been.
Signal Fluency teaches you to trust what you're reading.
Because every other Lab runs on data from inside you — and you can't choose well from a signal you can't yet tell apart from the story about it.

About the Founder

Biology of Being® was founded by Gina Carlson Hays. Gina's work began in the 1990s, long before nervous-system regulation entered mainstream conversations. It developed through years of hands-on exploration at the intersection of mind, body, breath, movement, and high-stakes performance.
Gina's approach emerged during years of searching for language, internal steadiness, theory, and support that could meet the lived experience of anxiety and self-doubt under pressure. Unable to find practitioners or frameworks working directly with nervous-system regulation in real time, she began developing what was missing — body-grounded methods that could reorganize all internal systems, creating safety, clarity, and confidence when it mattered most.
That work slowly became the four disciplines inside Reset to Reinvent™ — Regulation, Reframe, Future Self Rehearsal™, and Signal Fluency™. Each one grew out of what she needed to figure out for herself, one practice at a time.
